Standard operating procedure
Loss of children
1) Immediately inform the headquarter
2) Group ICs must remain calm and stick together with their group
3) The headquarters will then launch a search for the lost child
4) The headquarters will then inform the teacher in charge
Prevention:
· Regular head count
· Groups ICs must maintain vigilant at all time with the children and also the passersby
· Students not on duty will patrol around the venue to ensure the activites run smoothly
Injury
Prevention:
· Group ICs will have find out from the students regarding their medical history (e.g asthma) and take extra care of them.
· If Group ICs observes symptoms illness like breathlessness, chest pain, tiredness, they will request the children to stop the activity they are doing and take a rest.
· Group ICs will warn the children who played violently and behave indecently. If the child does not listen
· Do remember to do spotting for the children so that they do not get injured in the course of the game.
· Spotting means to take note of the things that can cause harm to the children in the course of the game and to ensure that the children do not get injured because of that.
· E.g. if the children have to crawl under a table, make sure you place a hand at the area below the ledge so that they would not hit it and warn them beforehand.
1. Whacko!
Objectives
1.Let participants familiarize with the name of other participants and facilitators
2.Break the ice between participants
How the game works
This is a game whereby the children will have to shout out the name of another before they get whack. When a person’s name is shouted, the ‘whacker’ will move forward to that person to attempt to whack the one called. The one being called will then have to call another person’s name before they are whacked or they will become the ‘whacker’.
For example:
When child A calls B, the whacker will try to whack B. If B shouts the name of C before he gets whacked, the whacker moves on to try and whack C. Otherwise, B gets whacked and becomes the new whacker.
Safety precautions
The only danger involve is that in their excitement the children may fall
whilst playing the game or hit another child with too much strength. Hence, we can use newspaper that is not very thick so that the hit would not hurt.
Equipment needed
Newspaper
2. Squirrel and Tree
Objectives
1.Train participants to listen to instructions given
2.Foster bonding between participants
How the game works
This is a game whereby the children will be split into threes. In each
trio, they will be given the role of a squirrel and two trees.
The two children acting out as the trees would hold hands whilst the
‘squirrel’ would stand between them.
One of the group ICs would then shout out some commands,
For example:
when he shouts hunter, only the squirrels move out of their respective
trees and look for another tree to hide into. There will be lesser no of trees
than the no of squirrels hence, the slowest squirrel to find a tree to hide
into will be eliminated.
Each round, there will be lesser no. of trees for the squirrels to hide into,
so as to make the game more challenging. The last three to be in the
game will be the winner.
Commands will be rotated frequently to test participant of their alertness.
Safety precautions
The only danger involve is that in their excitement the children may fall
down whilst playing the game. Hence, it may be played on grass patches
where it will cushion the impact of the fall.
Equipment needed
NIL
1.Dog and bone game
Duration-20minutes
1.Bring out the competitiveness level of participants
How the game works
This is a more physically demanding game.
Participants are required to stand at equidistance from an object from opposite sides.
Each participant is assigned with a number at each end. (There will be two participants at opposite groups with the same number)
When a number is called, participants bearing the number will compete on who can get the object first.
The group with most number of wins will triumph.
Participants will be reminded to abstain from rough play.
Facilitators as well as group IC will ensure no rough play is displayed.
Some bottles as the object
2.Musical chair
1.Train alertness of participants
2.Bring out the competitiveness of participants
A number of chairs (less than the number of participants) will be placed in the room. Participants are to each take up a position around all the chairs. Music will be played and participants are required to walk from chair to chair, at the same time on the ready. As soon as the music is stopped, participants are required to sit on the chair. Since there is a shortage of chairs, the participants whom are not able to secure themselves chairs will be eliminated. The game continues until a victor remains in the playing field.
Participants are reminded not to push or do any acts that will result in injury of oneself or others.
Facilitators will be around to prevent any foul play and injuries.
Equipment needed
Chairs
Laptop for the music
3. Crocodile pond
Objectives
1.Train participants to communicate efficiently with each other
2.Realise that thought is required before carrying out the activity
3.Teamwork is essential in this game
4.Concentrate on task allocated well
How the game works
This is a game whereby the children have to step on the numbers in a boundary in chronological order. The numbers will be jumbled up within the boundaries and the children are suppose to step on the paper plates starting from 1 to 20. There can only be one child in the boundary at a time and they can only step on the paper plates while in the boundary. They are then suppose to get to the next number after stepping on the first number or get out of the boundary after stepping on a number. The game ends when all the papers have been stepped on in chronological order. A mistake in the play by stepping on a wrong number or stepping on areas outside the paper plate would cause the game to restart.
For example,
Child A will step on paper plate 1 and then go out of the boundary. Child 2 will then step on paper plate 2, which is at the other end of the boundary, and thereafter continue with number 3, which is just near by before stepping out of the boundary.
Safety precautions
Ensure that the paper plates are tapped firmly to the ground and that it would not cause the child stepping on it to slip. Facilitators would also need to spot for the children when they jump from one plate to another in case they slip and fall.

4.Blindfold game
Duration-20minutes
Objective
1.Builds up trust among teammates
2.Trains participants to listen to instructions specifically
9 boxes will be placed at strategic positions of the room. There will be 2 teams in all. All participants will be blindfolded from each team for except one. Each participants will be given a call sign number. When the number is called, the one member from each team who is not blindfolded will lead the blindfolded teammate (whose number is called) to one of the boxes.
Inside each of these boxes contain 2 similar pieces of a puzzle. Each team is required to fetch all pieces from these boxes and solve the jigsaw puzzle from those pieces obtained.
The first team to solve the puzzle wins.
Safety precautions
Participants are reminded not to run as being blindfolded made them susceptible to injuries even with a guide.
Equipment needed
Blindfolds
9 boxes
Two sets of puzzle (9 pieces each)
There are no dangers involved since this is a relatively less physically demanded game.
Nevertheless, station IC will be allocated to ensure safety at all times.
Stopwatch
1.Promotes teamwork for a common goal
2.Promotes more imaginative thinking
3.Promotes creativity
How the game works
The various groups will be further broken down into two so that each group can have 3 people in a group. Each group is given the name of an animal.
They must come up with a way to demonstrate that animal, or act it out
as a team. Then each group presents their demonstration to the groups,
which have to guess what animal it is. Each group will play 2 rounds. Pictures of the animals will be printed out in case the children do not recognize the names of the animals.
Safety precaution
There are no danger foreseen in this game as it is a relatively mild nature game
Paper
1.Promotes alertness during the game
How the game works
There will be groups of three in the game and one person without a group. When the ‘free’ person runs to the front of the trio, the last person in the trio will have to leave before the catcher catches him or her. This goes on and the person caught would then be the catcher and the process continues.
Safety precaution
The children might fall when they run, thus the facilitators have to be alert and prevent that from happening. Or if in the case that that happens, do perform first aid.
